Lily of the Valley (1997)
An attractive design: a Lily of the Valley with 4 white, bell-like flowers, green leaves and curving stem. Set over a cobalt-blue colour ground, the flower is encircled by a border garland of pale-green/white millefiori canes with black crosses in the centre.
The flat, polished base is acid-etched: Lily of the Valley May Caithness Glass Scotland. It is scratch-signed: Allan Scott.
This weight is something of a mystery. The design is definitely by Allan Scott, who showed us his original drawing for it. Signed P62822 would indicate it was made in 1997 ! Maybe it was a trial, which was later used as the May design in the Helen MacDonald Floral Year series in 2000, to which it bears a remarkable resemblance.
