Belladonna - Ed. 100 (2004)

One of a series of designs - inspired by ancient medicinal plants - which Allan Scott created for the Whitefriars Collection at Caithness. Atropa Belladonna was used by women in ancient times to dilate the pupils of the eyes - a sign of beauty. The clear glass is set with 3 blooms in full flower and a single bud. Completing the lampwork design - in soft water-colour hues of pale-pink & pale-green with a hint of pale-blue - are stalks and leaves. The weight is finished with front and rear facets and 5 notch-cuts of differing lengths around the lower half as well as a pale-amber flash, which gives a warm glow to the cool colours.
The flat, polished base is signed by the artist Allan Scott and scratch-numbered 75-100.
