Spiral weights like this one - containing red, white and blue swirling ribbons surrounded by bubbles - were made throughout the 1950s; probably first for the Festival of Britain in 1951. The base is hollow ground and has no basal rim nor the characteristic indentation found in later Whitefriars millefiori weights.
