Extremely Rare Lampwork Frog
Probably of Thuringian origin, this is an extremely rare example of lampwork in a post-classic paperweight.
A green & black striped frog - with yellow & black eyes - is depicted leaping over a turquoise/white/ruby “ribbon” - which appears to be a cane split lengthwise. The spatter ground - over a translucent ruby cushion - includes partial canes and aventurine inclusions. Around the perimeter is a alternating garland of 5 or 6 types of millefiori canes - white crimps, yellow corrugated, turquoise tubes and blue/white stars. The glass has a strong greenish tint to it.
The lightly-ground base is flat and shows typical signs of wear.
