Upright Latticinio
One of Paul Ysart’s innovations in making paperweights was to incorporate short lengths of latticinio standing on end as a design element. This is a good example of a weight - where apart from a few exceptions - nearly all the other “elements” in this spaced concentric are upright latticinio twists, including the green & white circlets between the spokes. The design is set on an opaque bluish-purple textured ground.
Fire-polished, concave base with a rough pontil. Brownish-grey tint to the glass; most likely pre-1940s Moncrieff period.
(For an almost identical design on an orange ground see page 132 in Colin Mahoney’s book “Masterworks: The Paperweights of Paul Ysart”).
