The central set-up in this small millefiori weight - most likely produced in Thuringia - has a fortress cane surrounded by 13 similar, but smaller versions - in strong yellowish/orange and red colouring. The white/red floret surrounded by 11 red/white rods matches the canes in the outer millefiori ring in Fig. 43, page 40 in Peter von Brackel’s book “Paperweights”; as do the 5 pointed star centres (within the green rods) with their yellow “corners”. The canes are set on a colourful spatter base.
The glass of the dome has a distinct grey tint. The base is flat and lightly ground.
