The 7 complex millefiori canes - including a monkey silhouette - in the faceted knop of this letter seal indicate that it was produced by the Josephinenhütte in Silesia. Encircling the base of the knop is a fine red & white spiralling torsade. The red & white twists are continued in the octagonal shaft. The knopped lower section terminates in a polished foot, which, however, has no initials.
(For illustrations of the various canes see pages 64-85 in Peter von Brackel’s book “Classic Paperweights from Silesia/Bohemia”).
