Possibly from the Riedl glassworks in Polaun (Bohemia), this closepack could be an early weight produced by the factory (ca. 1870/80), as it features relatively simple canes - mainly cog canes around single or double multi-coloured tubes or rods - although some canes are slightly more intricate. For instance, those with yellow filigree filling the spaces between the cogs. The unusual feature is the translucent light-green cushion - strewn with small mica flakes and coloured powdered glass inclusions - as opposed to the far more common dark-green cushion.(See page 282 onwards in Peter von Brackel’s book “Classic Paperweights from Silesia/Bohemia”).
Flat, lightly polished base, showing considerable signs of wear.
