Silesia, Thuringia and the Bavarian Forest were the main German centres for glass production in the mid to late 19th Century. A number of glassworks in these regions are known to have produced post-classic paperweights from ca. 1875 into the 20th century. Canes in Thuringian weights are usually relatively simple with a predominance of bright colours (turquoise and orange-yellow) on spatter grounds. Silesian post-classic weights are generally of a higher quality and often set on filigree threads or in latticinio baskets. However, as German weights only appear infrequently on the market, it must be assumed, that the total volume was small and that paperweight production was little more than a sideline for the glasshouses.
For classic Silesian paperweights see the category: Bohemia/Silesia.
