Caithness

Caithness Glass - founded in 1960 in Wick in the northeast of Scotland - only started to produce paperweights in 1969, with the exception of those made by Paul Ysart at the weekends during the time he worked as training officer at the company between 1962 and 1970. It was Colin Terris who, after meeting and watching Paul Ysart at work, decided to strike out in a new direction and experiment with abstract designs in limited editions. The first was launched in 1969 and new designs have been issued every year since then. The designs have names which are either acid-etched or scratch-signed on the base.
The company has now been acquired by Dartington Glass and paperweight production moved from Perth to smaller premises in Crieff.
